Mathetis is a transliteration of the Greek word, mathetes (μαθητής), which means a “learner,” “student,” or “disciple”.
A great example of this word in the Greek New Testament is in John 8:31-32. “So Jesus said to the Jews who had believed him, ‘If you abide in my word, you are truly my disciples (μαθητής), and you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.'”
