What are some of the blessings we can enjoy when we are in Christ? Do you have any personal experiences with these blessings that you can share with your group?

Since all spiritual blessings are in Christ (Ephesians 1:3), it is in a faith relationship with him that we enjoy everything that God offers: forgiveness of sins, eternal life, the presence of the Holy Spirit, hope, joy and peace.

The Apostle Peter taught that God gives forgiveness of sins and the presence of the Holy Spirit when we believe that Jesus is the Christ, repent of our sins and are baptized in his name (Acts 2:36-38).

The Apostle Paul wrote to the churches of Galatia,

In Christ Jesus you are all sons of God, through faith.  For as many of you as were baptized into Christ have put on Christ.  There is neither Jew nor Greek, there is neither slave nor free, there is no male and female, for you are all one in Christ Jesus.  And if you are Christ’s, then you are Abraham’s offspring, heirs according to promise. (Galatians 3:26-29)

Paul wrote to the believers in Rome, “Since we have been justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ. Through him we have also obtained access by faith into this grace in which we stand, and we rejoice in hope of the glory of God” (Romans 5:1-2). The Apostle John wrote: “God gave us eternal life, and this life is in his Son. Whoever has the Son has life; whoever does not have the Son of God does not have life” (1 John 5:11-12).

Peter wrote of our blessings in Christ,

His divine power has granted to us all things that pertain to life and godliness, through the knowledge of him who called us to] his own glory and excellence, by which he has granted to us his precious and very great promises, so that through them you may become partakers of the divine nature, having escaped from the corruption that is in the world because of sinful desire. (2 Peter 1:3-4)

If you are in Christ, please share with your group what it means to you to have these blessings in your life.

  • What does it mean to have forgiveness of sins?
  • How does the Holy Spirit affect the way you live?
  • How is God creating oneness in your life with other believers without regard to race, gender or economics?
  • How does having the peace of God affect the way you live?
  • Describe the joy you have of sharing God’s glory.
  • How does Jesus in your life affect what you value, think about, and how you treat others?
  • What “great and precious promises of God” mean the most to you?
