Walk with the Doc – Chapter 9
Take a moment, look around, and you will see that a large percentage of our day is spent with our head down: working at a desk, using a cell phone, laptop or tablet, etc. Even while watching television or resting on a pillow in bed, our necks are somewhat flexed. Our posture suffers as a result and puts us at risk of developing spinal issues, such as osteoarthritis, later in life. Walking uprightly can reduce that risk. When walking, follow these basic steps: stand up straight, do not lean forward or back, keep your eyes looking forward at a distance of 10-20 feet, keep your chin up, shrug your shoulders and let them fall naturally. Not only will your posture improve, but you will breathe easier and have less back pain. Walk often and walk tall.
