Life seems to be filled with constant distraction. Living in what appears to be a discordant world, we yearn for harmony. Too much to do, so little time. Our minds are brimming with thoughts and ideas with no prospect of order. Focus is the ability to dedicate one’s attention to a main purpose or interest. Since it is impossible to do everything, one must live within that constraint and make choices, develop plans, establish milestones, set goals and allocate time. In that process, always keep in mind your priorities. Once you have created a manageable framework for your life, carry it out. Always have a built in measure of flexibility. Too much rigidity creates tension. We can examine this idea with the example of a walking program: When you’re walking, you’re walking, and that’s it! Clear your mind and channel your attention, as desired, for the allotted time. When done, move on. This type of compartmentalization seems a bit OCD, but it isn’t. Mastery of the mind creates tranquility. Take inventory of your life’s goals often. Stay on track. Make the journey your destination.
