Is it possible for us to know if the Bible is true?

There are good reasons to believe that the Bible is true. The same tests and questions that can be applied to any historical document can be applied to the Bible. How do we know if any historical writing is true? We ask questions like these: Does this document claim to be true? What is the origin of this document and how was it transmitted to us? Does this document describe what we know about reality, i.e., can its contents be verified by history, archaeology, and other witnesses? Is the document internally consistent and reliable in its message? Does the author’s character and life support the claim of truthfulness and reliability? Does the document contradict or deny what is known from other sources? Are there reasons to doubt the veracity of this document?

There is as much reason and more to believe and trust the message of the Bible as there is to believe and trust any historical document from the past. The same reasons we trust the writings of Plato, Aristotle, Josephus, Tacitus, Suetonius, Marcus Aurelius and others are the same reasons we can trust the message of the Bible.
