How our understanding of the meaning of our life impact the way we live.

When we know why we live and what we are living for, then we can know how to live. We all live the way we do because we have a purpose that defines us. The end for which we are living determines the means we use to get there. Our destination determines our journey.

An unbeliever lives without a relationship with God. He or she lives as though there is no God. Everything they are living for is tied up in this world. Thus, this world with its pleasures in food, drink, work, sex, family, things, power, accomplishments and money is all the “god” there is to them. They maximize all the pleasure they can receive from these things because to them this is all there is. There is nothing beyond or outside these earthly enjoyments. After a few short years, they die, and it’s all over forever. Then they meet God in judgment.

On the other hand, a believer recognizes God who gives meaning to life. Their purpose is to glorify or praise God in everything. A believer enjoys life and living but he or she sees everything from a different perspective. Every moment is lived in view of pleasing and honoring God who gives us all things to enjoy. Believers know that this life is not all there is. There is a righteous God of love, grace and mercy on whom they depend and for whom they live. They enjoy abundant life now and at death they enter into a greater degree of glory with God forever.
