God’s ways above our ways.

God is, indeed, far beyond our thoughts and ways. God says through the prophet Isaiah:

For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways, declares the Lord. For as the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways and my thoughts than your thoughts. (Isaiah 55:8-9)

This makes sense because if God were the same as us we would only be worshiping and serving ourselves or an extension of ourselves. In fact, sin (disobedience to God) is selfishness or service to self as the ultimate. This does make knowledge of God more difficult to us because we have to get over ourselves, think beyond ourselves, and worship and serve someone other than ourselves.

The human tendency is to create a god in our image, a god like us. Some resist the message of the true God by saying, “My god is not your god. My god wants me to be happy. If I enjoy something and it makes me feel good, then god wants me to have it. My god is so loving that he would never punish evil. Everyone is going to heaven, regardless of what they do or what they believe.” These ideas of God originate totally from man’s imaginations, thoughts, instincts and appetites. They deny the reality of the true God and are contradictory to his words in the Bible.

God is far bigger than our minds can ever imagine or comprehend. From eternity to eternity, he is God. There never has been a time when he was not. There never will be a time when he is not. God was never born or generated and he never dies. He never ages. He is the same awesome God forever and ever. God is the greatest thought your mind can ever begin to think about. He alone is responsible for the creation of the universe and for all the goodness, love, kindness, faithfulness, loyalties, truth, and grace in all the universe. He is truly an awesome God!
