Peter says that the word of God came from God to men and through men. “Men spoke from God as they were carried along by the Holy Spirit.” Inspiration does not mean verbatim, mechanical dictation. When God gave his message to men, they used their own personalities, vocabularies, education, background experiences and knowledge in their oral preaching and written documents. The individual style of a writer is evident in a document but the truth of the message is from God. Their messages, whether oral or written, were God’s approved and certified words.

The message came from God through men and was delivered to men. The message is divine because it is approved by God. It is human because it was transferred through men. Just as Jesus was both God and man in one person so the Scripture is also from God and through men. God is the ultimate author of the message but it was conveyed through human personality. Inspiration means that the document so accurately represents what God wanted said that we can say that it is the word of God.
