Choosing to Love Yourself
You’re pretty amazing. Do you know that? I mean…do you really, really know that?
You’re so amazing that the Creator of the entire universe looks directly at you and says, “I want to spend forever with YOU.” He’s already professed His love for YOU. He’s already given YOU the most valuable gift anyone has ever given when He gave you His Son, Jesus. He’s already seen everything about you and still wants to be with YOU. He’s already waiting for YOU in a home he has prepared for YOU with an inheritance that has YOUR name on it that YOU can enjoy for eternity!
You must be someone incredibly special.
And do you know what is the very best thing of all?
(Drumroll, please….)
You’re not perfect! (whaaaat?)
It’s true! You’re not perfect and He still loves you!
My question is, do you love you?
Do you see yourself as God sees you and do you show yourself the same kindness, grace, and mercy that He shows you?
If not, or if you’re not too sure, let me encourage you to start–today–choosing to love yourself!
To choose means that you “decide to do something” and choosing means that you are deciding right now and continuously.
Loving yourself is not selfish when you think about it in the agape sense of the word–God’s way of loving you. It’s loving yourself unconditionally. It’s a love that is faithful, committed, and characterized by actions. It’s a sacrificial love. It’s the same love that you offer to people in the world around you–even your enemies–because it’s a love that wants the greatest good for others. And, the greatest good you could want for them, and for yourself, is a home in Heaven with God forever.
Love yourself because God wants you there with Him.
Love yourself because you long for that eternal reward.
Love yourself because you know what God gave up in order for you to have it.
Love yourself because you are valuable and worthy–all because of Jesus!
And, love yourself because you aren’t perfect! Because you’re going to have bad days. Because you’re going to make wrong choices. Because everyone sins and falls short of the glory of God (Romans 3:23). But, when you choose to love yourself, you offer yourself grace and mercy. You forgive yourself for the mistakes you make. You give yourself a pep talk, straighten yourself up, get things right with God, point yourself toward the cross, and tell yourself to keep walking.
Start choosing to love yourself today and don’t miss out on a beautiful relationship with a built-in best friend!
I’m choosing to love you and I might not even know you!
And, yep…I was right…
You’re pretty amazing!
