In Lesson 9, read the Digging Deeper article, “What is Sin?” along with all Scriptures referenced. What have you learned about sin in this lesson? How has it changed your perspective on making choices? Why can we not remove our own sins?

During the course of this lesson, I have learned that sin is not only directly acting against God but it can also be a lack of action when called to act. Sin is anything that is a willing disobedience of God’s commands, whether small or large. This changes my perspective significantly because there have been many occasions where fear has overwhelmed me and I haven’t done the things that God has called me to do. And this lesson has taught that those moments are also causes for repentance, because that is not only a sign of weakness but also a direct refusal to follow God’s plans. Now when deciding when to act I will not allow fear, weakness, shame, or anything else to hold me back from God’s commands. If I do end up sinning again, which is likely, I will turn to the Lord, repent, and ask for Him to change me to be less sinful and worldly. The reason I cannot do these things on my own is because I am not strong enough nor do I have nearly the amount of power that our Lord has. He knows what is best and He sent down the perfect example, Jesus, for me to follow. So the best way to become the person He created me to be is to go to God and ask for the strength to change, this includes repenting and giving up the sinful ways I had previously.

Sin is simple, it is disobedience to god. It is doing something against god when he tells us not to. And sin is also no doing anything when god tells us to. And it is when you do something different than what god wants you to do. This could include stopping short of gods full command or even doing more than he commands. All of these things are considered sin because it is disobedience. The lesson tells us that in James 4:17 “ whoever knows the right thing to do and fails to do it for him it is a sin. All of these things i have learned about sin in this lesson. And it has made clear to me that i have to know exactly what god is telling me to do and i have to do it immediately. We cannot remove our own sins because we have to repent and accept that we sin. And if we do that and we turn to Jesus for forgiveness, then we will be sent to heaven even if we did sin.

Through this lesson I have learned that sin is an act against God. Sin is the one of the things God doesn’t want us to do. It’s important that as Christians we just set an example for others. The example we need to set is that sin is wrong. We have to show people that it’s not cool to do things we know are wrong. Sin can be a variety of things whether it’s doing what God says not to do or if it’s not following Gods rules completely. The earth we live on is spread with sin. You can look just about anywhere and see sin because some people don’t care to listen to God. Some people don’t even believe there is a God. When we sin we are supposed to go to God and say we are sorry for the sins we have committed. Throughout this lesson I have learned more about repentance and sin and it has impacted me. Now I know that God wishes for us no matter how little the sin is to repent and ask for forgiveness. It’s important for us as Christians to repent because that’s how we apologize to God. If we don’t repent than God can’t forgive us of our sins and that was the reason Jesus died on the cross so instead of dying when we sin if we ask for forgiveness from God and he accepts it then we have been forgiven.

Sin is when we give into temptation. It is an act against God. We shouldn’t sin but we are human and we do. It is our job as Christians to try our best and do what is right even though some times we mess up. Everywhere we look there is sin in our world we have to strive to live the way they Jesus lived he set the example of how we should live and act. While we can’t stop sinning we can repent and ask for forgiveness this is very important because it makes it possible for us to be worthy in the eyes of God when are sins are forgiven we are clean again and that is what we need to be for God to accept us. I learned that we can not remove our own sins because we are not God we don’t have that ability.

I have learned that sin is anything that goes against God’s expectations of us. It may be an action or even a mindset that we have. If we place anything above God in our lives (money, admiration of others, temptations, etc.) then we are sinning. If we purposely twist the verses of the Bible to suit our own needs, we are sinning. We must give our whole selves to God and emulate Him in literally every action and thought. Unfortunately, we are not capable of that and that is why we are all sinners. This has changed my perspective because I need to evaluate my thoughts as well as my actions. I need to do my best to ensure that my first thought is centered around God and kindness. And this goes for every situation, not just the ones that seem important. We can’t remove our own sins because we are weaker than God. But we can always repent and come back to God and His light.
